Curious about Jesus?
Maybe you grew up with church and drifted away. Maybe you've never been and you're wondering what it's all about. Why rest?
Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). That's a big claim. We think it's worth a look, because the rest he offers reaches past our tired bodies to the restless part of us that keeps trying to prove itself.
Who is Jesus?
The good news of Christianity is that we can't find God or fix ourselves, so God came to find us. He became a man, Jesus of Nazareth, who lived an ordinary human life with one startling difference: he never did anything wrong.
Jesus lived the life we couldn't, then willingly took the punishment our failures deserved. Dying on the cross, he forgave the people killing him. When he rose from the dead, he showed that death had no hold on him, or on anyone who trusts him.
So being right with God doesn't depend on how hard we try, or even how strong our faith feels. It depends on the one we trust. And once you stop trying to earn God's approval, you're free to love him out of thankfulness, and to finally rest.
